YogaWhat is Yoga?

Yoga is a system or set of breathing exercises and a programme of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide the physical strength and stamina required for long periods of meditation.

Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body—especially the main channel, the spine—so that energy can flow freely.

Come as you are and yoga practice will help you become more flexible. This newfound agility will be balanced by strength, coordination, and enhanced cardiovascular health, as well as a sense of physical confidence and overall well-being.

For a more intense workout pace, Vinyasa-style yoga combines a series of flowing postures with rhythmic breathing for an intense body-mind workout. An example of this style is Ashtanga Yoga, is a fast-paced series of sequential postures, which increase in difficulty, allowing students to work at their own pace.

To get started, it's helpful to clearly prioritize what needs you want to fulfill: Are you looking to sweat your way into a lean form, or does a gentler, more meditative approach sound more appealing? This way, you will find out which style is suitable to your needs and enjoy the journey.
