FAQs

1. Where is Jitterbugs Swingapore®?
We are currently at our permanent premises at 2 Handy Road #B1-08 The Cathay Singapore 229233.
The nearest MRT station is the Dhoby Ghaut station. It's a really short work thereafter in the direction of The Cathay!

2. Which dance is suitable for me?
This is hard one to answer but we will try to make the right recommendation!
Generally speaking, there is no age limit for our classes, but do be responsible and know the limits of your own health!
You decide if you want to do a partner dance or a non-partner dance.
You can choose a class by the kind of music. Rule of thumb - if you like the music, you'll love the dance!

3. How do I enrol for classes?
Other than our 8-week courses which require pre-registration, you can just turn up and enrol at the Reception for class.
For 8-week courses, pre-registration is required. A minimum of 10 fully-paid up registrations are required to start. If a course is very popular, payment to confirm your registration is absolutely necessary.
Currently we accept full payment by cash, cheque, NETS, AMEX, VISA and MasterCard at the studio. If you're sending us a cheque, please write the cheque in favour of "Jitterbugs Swingapore" We also accept payment via Bank Transfer, offline Credit Card transactions and PayPal.
FYI, the popular classes tend to fill up before they start, so please confirm early with payment to avoid disappointment. From past experience, we are unable to accept walk-in registrations for these courses.
To determine which dance level you are, please read: What level am I?

5. What is a Dance Card?
A Dance Card allows you the convenience of doing many classes without having to fumble with change each time!
The Dance Card works like a prepaid card which gives you 12 (+1 free) classes. It costs $240 (members) / $300 (non-members).
Each time you come for class, just let us know which classes you are taking and it will be signed-off.
Or you can choose to keep the card, and present it for us to sign-off before you take class. Just a note, if you lose the card, we will not replace any un-used portion of your card.
A Dance Card is applicable for all classes (including the 8-week courses) except Pole Dance classes. If you use the Dance Card to pay for an 8-week course, we will cancel 8 classes from the card.
Dance Cards are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase and are not transferable.
No refunds will be made, whether in whole or in part for any unused portion of a Dance Card.
Dance Cards cannot be used as payment for any workshop or special events.

6. When can I start?
The Beginner Level (1 & 2) of our partner dances and Intro non-partner dances are structured 8-week courses, while all Kids classes are structured 9-week terms. You therefore need to join the class on the start dates as indicated in our schedule.
Unless otherwise stated, all other classes are ongoing, which means you are welcomed to join in anytime. If you intend to take a level 2 partner dance, and you did not do level 1 at Jitterbugs Swingapore®, you will be interviewed to determine your placement.

7. Do I need to bring a partner?
No, you don't. The focus of our teaching is the lead and follow of social dance. In all our classes we rotate partners so everyone gets a chance to dance with each other.
Also see "I don't have a partner. Can I still take class? I have a partner. Must I still rotate?"

8. What should I wear?
Please click here for a description of what to wear for your dance class.

9. What level am I?
If you are an absolute beginner in the dance or wish to get a good grounding of the basic techniques, you should go to level 1.
For non-partner dances, if you have some knowledge and experience of the dance and want to develop your style and repertoire, level 2 should be right for you.
For partner dances, experience at a completed level 1 course is the minimum required to take a level 2 class, while experience at the completion of both level 2 courses A and B is the minimum required to take a level 3 class.
If you did your dance course elsewhere, please expect to be questioned about your experience, or you may be asked to audition for that level. We try our best to ensure a happy dance and learning experience for all who come to take class.
If in doubt of which level you should be in, please approach the teacher for a fair and truthful assessment. Being in the correct level to your ability not only benefits you as a dancer, but also helps the rest of the class progress.

10. Can I take private lessons?
Yes, private lessons are a good way to improve quickly. Call us at 6887-0383 or e-mail us at dance@swingapore.com to find out your teacher's availability and rates.

11. I have two left feet. Will the classes be too difficult?
Yes, class may be challenging, especially if you're a newbie, but we believe that dancing should first and foremost be fun ... Yes, even after the six-minute crunches in our Jazz classes.

Classes themselves are only half the fun, the other half comes from the Swingaporean community - people you meet in our classes. And everyone starts out feeling they have two left feet ... but nobody really had two left feet!

12. I don't have a partner. Can I still take partner dance class?
You don't need a partner. None. Zilch. For any of our classes. Period. We rotate partners around frequently in our partner dance classes. In fact, we totally encourage changing partners since you're learning to dance a social dance!

I have a partner. Must I still rotate?
Partner dances are also known as social dances, and that's just what it is! In order to get better at it, you have to dance with different people. And what better way than to rotate in class! If you're coming with your significant other, we strongly recommend changing partners during the learning process to take the pressure off. We certainly don't want to get in the middle of a heated "discussion".
