LETTERS TO PARENTS / SCHEDULES / MISCELLANEOUS
From time to time, especially at the beginning and end of terms, and near to show times, we need to communicate important and relevant information to parents. As such, we are trying to establish as fool-proof a system of communication as possible! Please assist us to make this an effective communication channel.
1. Letter will be provided as a Google Doc link.
2. Parents will receive email and SMS with the link to the letter.
3. We will request a reply via SMS to confirm that you have received and read the letter.
Please do ensure that we have your latest, correct mobile number! This is necessary, not only for communications, but also for emergency use.
Please note the following reminders to keep our studio a happy and healthy environment for all.
1. NO PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY OF ANY CLASSES
Please respect our NO PHOTOS and NO VIDEO policy of the classes - while recording your child, you are also inadvertently recording other children in the class. This is mainly to protect the privacy of our many young students. By respecting this policy, you are allowing all our students to enjoy their classes without fear that their images might appear (unintentionally or otherwise) on FaceBook, YouTube or other public media.
2. NO FOOD WITHIN THE PREMISES, NO WATER OR DRINKS IN THE STUDIO
Please do not consume any food within the studio premises. The smell of food lingers and becomes extremely unpleasant for other users as the day progresses. There is ample space to eat in the food court just outside. Also, please do not bring ANY liquids / drinks into the dance studios. Spilt drinks damage the floor and equipment.
Parents, please assist by sending your kids to the studio early or at the least on time for class. Apart from it being a basic courtesy to the teacher and fellow students, being on time means the class can start and end on time. The warm up at the beginning of a dance class is also essential to prevent injuries.
Dance classes are an opportunity to teach more than just dance to the children. Like any subject taught to children, dance helps them to learn who they are, how they interact with others in the world, and how they fit into history. Our programme aims to instill character traits of teamwork, discipline and self-control. Please do help us by getting your kids to class on time!
4. BATHROOM BREAKS
We recommend that you bring your child to the bathroom 5 to 10 minutes before class (another reason to arrive early for class), so that he / she can stay focused and uninterrupted in class. We may not always have staff available to take kids to the bathroom, so please stay around the studio to help your child to the bathroom if necessary. If your child is 10 years or older, we will let them go to the bathroom themselves. Whatever the age of your child, please brief your child periodically about basic personal safety in public places.
5. STREET SHOES TO THE BATHROOM, ONLY DANCE SHOES IN THE STUDIO
Please remind your child to change into street shoes when going to the bathroom and to only wear their dance shoes in the dance studios - your kids sit on the dance floor to stretch and do floor exercises. Please assist us in ensuring a clean dance environment for your kids.
6. KEEP NOISE LEVELS DOWN
lease assist in keeping the noise level down within the studio premises, by reminding your child
to not play loudly or run along the corridors - the kids taking class get distracted and class is disrupted when the instructor has to step out to deal with the noise.
Good grooming is part of the etiquette of a dance class and is essential for discipline in dance. Please ensure that your child is in the appropriate uniform and shoes.
All girls in the Ballet, Jazz and Tap programme are required to have their hair in a bun for class. Boys and girls with short hair are required to have their hair neat and tidy. Please be advised that teachers may refuse entry to students who are inappropriately groomed for dance class. For help on how to tie a neat and tidy hair bun, see our simple tutorial: A Swingapore Tutorial - How to tie a neat & secure hair bun [Video]
To help the kids who are doing multiple genres to get to their next class quickly, the teachers have agreed as follows:
- Ballet class -> Jazz or Tap class
If your child’s first class is a Ballet class, please have your child dressed in the Ballet attire. When going into Jazz or Tap class, please have your child take off the Ballet shoes, and put on the black capri and appropriate shoes.
- Jazz or Tap class -> Ballet class
If your child’s first class is a Jazz / Tap class, please have your child wear the Ballet tights under the Jazz / Tap leotard and the black capri with the appropriate shoes. When going into Ballet class, please remove the black capri and put on Ballet shoes.
- This arrangement is only applicable to kids with back-to-back classes in Ballet, Jazz and Tap.
- All other kids are expected to be in the appropriate uniforms and shoes for their classes.
